“Nuggets” open playoffs on “4/20”
The Golden State Warriors head to Denver this coming Saturday, 4/20, to face the Denver “Nuggets” and that’s hilarious.
There was a time when “Nuggets” referred to ingots, mined from the mountainsides by our scruffy forebears. Not anymore. These days the nickname calls to mind images of other scruffy types. Since the passage of Amendment 64, it’s become an almost too-perfect name for Denver’s NBA franchise. The fans of Washington must be pretty jealous. They legalized it, too, but they’re stuck without a basketball team to reflect their enlightenment.
This 4/20, celebrate the newfound appropriateness of our Nuggets as they smoke the Golden State Warriors at Pepsi Center. The action begins at 3:30. What you do fifty minutes later is your business.
It’s high time for the playoffs, Denver.
