Carmelo Anthony of the New York Carmelo Anthonies was quite proud of Carmelo Anthony’s performance last night. He poured in 50 points, tying his career high. Anthony sunk seven of ten from three point range, scored zero points in the paint and collected two rebounds and two assists, all in the fourth quarter. With Lebron James and Dwayne Wade sidelined with “injuries” the Miami Heat were content to let Carmelo Anthony put on a show. He scored nearly half his teams points in defeating Miami 102-90.

Three New York players posted double-figure scoring totals. Raymond Felton posted 10 points and JR Smith 14. Aside from that, it was pretty much all Carmelo all the time.

Carmelo’s performance proved that he still sucks. Contrary to media ramblings about his newfound maturity as an established all-pro player, it demonstrated once again that Carmelo Anthony is all about Carmelo Anthony. Why get your team mates involved when you can pad your own stats? That’s Carmelo’s attitude. Always has been, always will be. Carmelo Anthony will never be a champion because he doesn’t grasp the concept of team basketball.

On a typical night, your Denver Nuggets will have six or seven players score in double figures. There are nights when they would benefit from a shooter like Carmelo, but they’re generally far better off without him. His record-tying game in Miami last night was further testament to that fact. George Karl would have gone nuts by now if Anthony hadn’t forced the trade that extricated him from Denver.

Unless Carmelo Anthony someday becomes the number two guy on a team with a player he looks up to, he’s doomed to go ringless the entire rest of his career. He will keep on posting gaudy stat lines and feeling really great about himself while his teams spin their wheels.

Lots of folks are singing Carmelo Anthony’s praises today. Carmelo Anthony is chief among them, to be sure. But his performance against the Heat last night should make Nuggets fans feel better than ever that he’s gone.

I’m just glad he’s still on my fantasy team.
