Should the Nuggets shut Ty Lawson down?
The Nuggets have had a hard time spelling “Victory” without “Ty” lately, but it’s very possible that we won’t see him suit up for another regular season game in 2013.
What was believed to be a heel bruise turns out to be a tear of Ty’s plantar fascia. It’s a brutal injury that can only be healed by rest and regeneration. The good news is that Lawson won’t require surgery. The bad news is that he won’t get better in time for the playoffs if he plays through the searing pain he is doubtlessly experiencing.
The 19 minutes Ty played versus the Spurs was 19 too many, as even George Karl has admitted.
But will the Nuggets shut Ty down for the remainder of the regular season? The Nuggets have nine games left, including tonight’s tilt with the Nets and their April 19th finale against the Suns.
They’re in a battle with the Clippers for the third playoff seed. Now the question facing the Nuggets is whether it’s worth risking Lawson’s future health in battling LA for the spot. There’s widespread sentiment that the Nugs should sit him down for the rest of the year.
