[Insert Winston Wolfe quote here], the Nuggets haven’t won anything yet
“The win streak has been incredible and the Nuggets deserve all the credit for looking like a contender despite GM Masai Ujiri’s claim to the contrary. But fans went from quietly optimistic, to planning the parade route through Lodo – not over the course of the win streak – but over the course of one night.”
Let’s not start orally pleasuring each other just because the Nuggets are playing some of its best basketball in our lifetimes. While I thoroughly enjoyed the Nuggets ass kicking of the OKC Thunder the other night and subsequent continuation of the win streak, I’m going to stay realistic. It was a great win and despite what folks on twitter will accuse you of, I enjoyed it immensely. But what I couldn’t enjoy was everyone picking out their outfits for the victory parade which will be apparently held after the Nuggets waltz through the playoffs to NBA glory. Not to be a downer, ok maybe a little bit of a downer, but you people have done lost your damn minds if you think anything we’ve seen over the last few weeks guarantees the Nuggets will win an NBA title.
The win streak has been incredible and the Nuggets deserve all the credit for looking like a contender despite GM Masai Ujiri’s claim to the contrary. But fans went from quietly optimistic, to planning the parade route through Lodo – not over the course of the win streak – but over the course of one night.
And if you question that, you get the usual “why can’t we enjoy this?” backlash that fans love to throw out. I told people to put away their erections because the Nuggets have a long, long way to go before being crowned NBA champs, which fans – drunk on the sweet wine of a great streak – took that to mean I was poo-pooing their enjoyment of the win. You can enjoy it and please do. I was in cloud 10 for a good half hour after they won their 13th straight but after a flood of “ESPN says we could win it all!” tweets, cold reality set in that an NBA title for the Nuggets is about as a sure thing as buying stereo equipment out of the back of a van.
And since when does anyone care what ESPN thinks? That right there should give you every indication that Nuggets fans aren’t thinking clearly. The 4 letter network has ignored the team all season long and now that they endorse them to go all the way you want to listen? Preposterous.Use your head Nuggets fans. Experts at ESPN also predicted the Rockies would go to the World Series two seasons ago.
My reaction to the reverie over which bar to celebrate the Nuggets first NBA championship in is totally justified because don’t forget, we all made plans for our Super Bowl parties as the Broncos entered that first playoff game (aka Ray Lewis’s retirement party) against the Ravens and then spent the following several months lamenting the loss like Taylor Swift. I didn’t think I had to remind you how that turned out but apparently I did. The Broncos got bounced after everyone pre-crowned them champs for several weeks prior to that game. I’m not saying that was their undoing but if fans decide the Nuggets are NBA champs after an impressive string of victories, the suicide hot line had better add some extra help when the inevitable happens with the Nuggets because based on the fan reaction last night – and subsequently the backlash to my telling people to conceal their boners – there will be some seriously disappointed people wandering the streets of Denver and whining to sports talk shows. And if they do win? Then we can all start sucking each other’s dicks. Now that I will endorse.
