The Nuggets finally gave fans closure over Carmelo.

George Karl says it’s time to “let it go” and I finally feel that I can.

I can’t speak for all Nuggets fans, but for me it had to happen just like this, with the Knicks being blown out at Pepsi Center. I think I can safely set my bitterness aside.

Carmelo played 22 minutes, scored nine points and slinked away under cover of an injured knee. He would have played through his pain if the game was in doubt, but the Nuggets were blasting New York. There was no sense in continuing with the blood letting. His team was -18 with him on the floor. It’s not as if ‘Melo was helping. He spent the evening doinking shots off the rim.

The Final score was 117-94. But it wasn’t that close.

Denver’s lead hovered around 30 before Coach Karl inserted the JV squad. The Nuggets found success the way they always do, by spreading it around. In the good old days they would stand back and hope Carmelo could score 40. In taking their tenth straight win, they got double-digit efforts from six separate contributors.

The Nuggets are a far better team than the New York Knicks. Despite Carmelo Anthony being by far the best piece in the famous trade that sent him to the big apple, Denver somehow came out ahead. If they played in the East, the Nuggets would be the ones vying to lose to the Heat in the conference finals. They would be the 2 two seed with a significant distance between themselves and the three.

If the Knicks played in the West they would be on the outside looking in.

Clearly, New York is not as bad as they looked last night. Still, anyone can see that Masai managed to make lemonade from Carmelo’s sour grapes. That’s the sweetest revenge a small market fan can hope for.

Carmelo got just we he wanted. His wife did, too. They got the exposure and the big city lights. We got a better team. It’s not such a bad deal after all.

I can let it go now.

I’ll always hate the way Carmelo Anthony left and that he forced Ujiri’s hand, but I love what the Nuggets do and the way they do it. I’m proud of the fans, too. Last night’s game wasn’t a sell-out as it should have been, but it looked like one on TV. The faithful put on a show just like the Nuggets did. It was a playoff atmosphere, indeed.

On a day that the Broncos did all they could to steal the show, the Denver Nuggets provided fans closure by thumping New York so convincingly that no subtle factor could explain it away.
