John Elway could not have written a better script for week fifteen of the NFL season. His Broncos are now the number two seed in the AFC playoff picture after they dominated play in Baltimore versus the Ravens and the Patriots got beaten at home by San Francisco.
With two home games remaining with the Cleveland Browns and the woeful Chiefs, the Broncos seem to be on track for a 13-3 regular season record and a decisive advantage come playoff time. It’s an ideal scenario. Peyton Manning could use a week off. He is old, after all. Also, let’s not forget that he sat out the entire 2011 season. The fact that the Broncos control their own destiny where a bye is concerned is wonderful news.

This team could really be Super Bowl bound. I have been reluctant to say that until now – mostly because the Patriots seemed unbeatable. But they got beaten by a rookie QB tonight. Peyton Manning is no rookie. He’s a Hall-of-Famer and he doesn’t want one Mr. Tom Brady to forget it. Something magic is happening in Broncos Country and there’s no reason to resist it. A team simply does not win nine games in a row unless it’s on a mission.
The Broncos played better on defense in the first half of today’s game that I can ever remember seeing them play. The Patriots played worse on offense in the first half on tonight’s game than I can ever remember seeing them play. New England showed that there are cracks in the armor. The Broncos are opportunistic enough to take advantage.
Peyton Manning has been practicing during live game action. He’s trying stuff and testing his arm – and sometimes it looks goofy. By the time the playoffs roll around, though, he will be laser sharp again. The defense doesn’t need to change a thing.
I’m finally having fun. Winning isn’t routine anymore. Not after today. It means something now. The Broncos aren’t the Nuggets, they won’t settle for just getting to the dance.
