I am trying to break your heart Broncos fans
“A season that started out with such great promise, now stands at the precipice of failure in only the fourth game of the year. Will the Broncos stand tall or fall off the cliff?”
I am trying to break your heart
But still I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t easy
I am trying to break your heart
No, Broncos fans. I’m not really trying to break your heart, but what you’re about to read may just do that. If your Denver Broncos don’t win this Sunday against the Oakland Raiders, this season is over. Not only does it put the team at a sincere disadvantage to make the playoffs, but it casts a pall over the team going forward. A season that started out with such great promise, now stands at the precipice of failure in only the fourth game of the year. Will the Broncos stand tall or fall off the cliff?
I don’t think the Broncos will lose and to back that up, I picked them in the weekly South Stands Denver NFL picks column. But if they do lose, it really lays the ground work for a miserable season: not only does it put them in a hole record wise, but it shines a bright light on the fact that they might not be that good.
The Broncos played arguably the two best teams in the entire NFL over the past two weeks. The Steelers, although losing to the Raiders, aren’t the Cleveland Browns, so you can say the first three games have been nothing but a challenge for the orange and blue. But this game is where the rubber meets the road, or where the grease paint meets the spiked shoulder pads as far as the Broncos having a successful season. Lose to the talent deficient Raiders and you risk never climbing out of the hole they dug for themselves. Because a loss this weekend means a loss the following week to the Patriots and at that point, who’s to say they won’t lose in San Diego going into the bye? That would put them at 1-5 and at a major disadvantage to even thinking about climbing into the playoff hunt.
This is a HUGE game. One that I think they will win. But if they don’t, push that large panic button being installed in every Broncos fan’s house. Set your hair on fire and run outside. Call every sports radio station that will have you and complain about Peyton Manning’s arm while referring to the team as “we”. Because if they lose this weekend, the Broncos may have not officially tumbled over the precipice of failure, but the fans will have already jumped.
