Thanks For a Pretty Great Season, Broncos
Yes, the last game of the season wasn’t great. It was a killing of epic portions. But if someone had told you last year the Broncos would be in the Divisional Playoffs against the Patriots this season, would you have believed them? I know I wouldn’t have. That’s why, instead of dissecting what went wrong and mile long list of all the improvements that need to happened, I’m just going to thank them for the season we got.
It was a damn crazy one and I enjoyed most of what it had to offer. However, my biggest thanks for this team is not its record or 25th overall pick or even the fact that they knocked the Steelers out of the playoffs. It’s what this team was able to bring back to the city of Denver.
At the beginning of this season, Colorado sports fans were having a rough go. The Rockies were a disappointment, the Nuggets probably weren’t going to have a season and Joe Sacco sold his soul to the Devil, enabling him to keep his job.
We didn’t expect much out of the Broncos either, especially with a shortened off season and new coaching staff. Hope was starting to slip once again with a 1-4 start, slowly we began to brace ourselves for the same dismal season. But then something happened; be it Tebow, Jesus, Mile High Magic or Elway…the Denver Broncos started winning.
This team took us on a wild ass ride, complete with a lot of ups and downs. Simply saying the Broncos went 8-8 just didnt do the season justice. But this specific Denver Broncos team was able to do something much bigger than win games. They made us fans excited again, they made us happy to turn on the game.
This is a team that finally began to understand again what it means to be a Denver Bronco, and what it means to play in this city. It’s a special place, this team understands that.
Obviously, a massive driving force in that was naming Tim Tebow the starting quarterback; love him or hate him, the team looked different when he was in control. They wanted to win just as badly as we wanted them to. It felt nice to see the team care again. It felt nice to be able to have that fire brought back.
Now, I’m not saying the passion from Broncos fans was gone, because that’s impossible. Day in and day out, Broncos fans bleed orange and blue regardless of record, coaching staff or quarterback. But, after years of watching uninterested QBs and diva wide outs, we became a little more apathetic. It was one disappointment after another, and it was becoming hard to watch. But this team reminded us about what’s so great about this franchise. And for that, I want to say thanks for a pretty great season, Broncos. We sure do love you.
