I always love stories where people’s names synch up with their passions or what they eventually choose as a profession. When I was a kid, our veterinarian was named Dr. Shepherd and that always made me smile.
Meet Dawson Batts, a 12-year old pitcher from Fayetteville, NC who was born without a left arm. This amazing young man wowed the crowd at the Baseball Youth NYBC All-Star Challenge with not only his play on the mound but at the plate as well.
Despite being born with only one arm Batts has a high expectation for his athletic career. More from MLB:
“As for Dawson, he has a clear plan for his life: playing baseball for North Carolina State and then getting drafted by the Red Sox, potentially becoming another Jim Abbott. His favorite player is Dustin Pedroia, because “he’s the underdog,” and it seems with each new level of baseball he tries, Dawson continues to grow out of that own label.”
Obviously getting to the professional level in any sport is a rough road and we wish the best of luck to this amazing pre-teen who’s passion and drive should be an inspiration to us all.
