Peyton’s in the hot seat

Could the hottest free-agent acquisition in modern history be feeling the heat? The answer is “yes”.
Peyton Manning is basically playing on a one-year deal and he knows it. He told the Denver Post’s Woody Paige: “End of the day, my contract really is only a one-year contract.” And it’s true. The Broncos can shed him after this season if they wish to. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio points out that: “the Broncos can dump Peyton Manning for any reason and at any time after the 2012 season ends, up until the final day of the 2012 league year, in early March. If they don’t part ways, Peyton will be guaranteed $40 million over the next two seasons.”
In other words, Peyton’s on the hot seat. He has to perform well if he wants the pot of gold at the end of the 2012 rainbow. It’s tough to picture Elway, Incorporated giving up on him after one season, but Manning’s contract does allow for it. In fact, the deal is very team-friendly considering how many suitors the hall-of-famer had.
