Rockies fans who made the journey to Salt River Fields this spring were abuzz about a Nolan Arenado. The rookie infielder proved in spring training that he had the right stuff and those who saw him play felt as though he should join the big club sooner rather than later. When he didn’t begin the season on the Rockies roster many folks were upset. It didn’t take long, however, for the powers that be to realize that Arenado offered more offensive punch to the Rox lineup than Chris Nelson. Nelson was designated for assignment and Arenado was finally called up from the Sky Sox last week.

In his first couple for games for the Colorado Rockies, Arenado came frustratingly close to reaching base, but never did … until last night. In a game at Dodgers Stadium at which some sixty of his friends and family members were in attendance, the youngster had his coming out party. He went three-for-six, posted two RBI and smacked a monster homer as his mother and a section filled with supporters jumped up and down in excitement. It was a special moment – the kind that we watch sports to witness.

Arenado wasn’t the only Rockies player to enjoy the warm LA evening. The Rockies bats were alive and kicking. Fowler and Rosario also belted home runs and pitcher Tyler Chatwood went three-for-four at the plate, batting .667 and helping the Rockies to pile on the rival Dodgers. The Rockies preserved their perch atop the NL West in defeating the Dodgers 12-2.

As wonderfully as the entire team played, it was Arenado’s night – one that he will certainly never forget. And for Rockies fans it was another reason to smile in what has so far been a magical season.
