Our week 8 NFL picks VS the spread

Colin D. | October 31, 2010
Reidy and Colin enter week 8 tied at 34-36-1 VS the spread

NOTE:  ALL HOME TEAMS ARE FAVORITES THIS WEEK (S.F. is “home” VS DEN in London)

San Francisco VS Denver (+2)
The very fact that the 1-6 ‘Niners are favorites in this game speaks
volumes about the type of season the Broncos are having.  San Fran got
a several-day jump on the Broncs, traveling to London on Monday.
McDaniels held practice for Denver in Denver on Thursday.   Players
slept on the plane and had meetings on Friday morning.  We are
concerned a bit about jet lag.  We’re also worried about QB Troy
Smith.
Colins pick:  San Francisco -2  Reidy’s pick: San Francisco -2

Dallas VS Jacksonville (+6.5)
Jon Kitna gets the start for Dallas in the wake of Tony Romo’s
unceremonious exit from Monday night’s game VS the NY Giants witha
busted collarbone.  Luckily, the Cowboys host a very shaky Jaguars
team who might be relocated to L.A. by 2012.  The Jags are absolutely
terrible.  This line would be huge if Romo were active.  How big of a
downgrade is Kitna?
Colin’s pick:  Dallas -6.5  Reidy’s pick: Dallas -6.5

Detroit VS Washington (+2.5)
The Lions are FAVORED against the Redskins??  Yep.  The tide is indeed
turning in today’s NFL.  Matt Stafford returns for the Lions after
going down in week 1.  Shanahan brings his struggling ‘Skins into
Motown in desperate need of a win to keep pace in the NFC eastern
division.
Colin’s pick:  Detroit -2.5  Reidy’s pick: Detroit -2.5

NY Jets VS Green Bay (+6)
One of the AFC’s best hosts one of the NFC’s best in this match-up.
While it should be an exciting game it’s tough to pick against the
nails-tough Jets at their house.  The only question here is the line.
The Pack has so many weapons.
Colin’s pick:  Green Bay +6  Reidy’s pick: Jets -6

St Louis VS Carolina (+3)
Carolina is fucking awful.  Yeah, they beat the ‘Niners last week but
the Rams are much, much better.  Crazy, right.  Stephen Jackson should
tear the Panthers defense apart.
Colin’s pick:  St Louis -3  Reidy’s pick: St. Louis -3

Cincinnati VS Miami (+1)
You can usually assume that Vegas spots the home team in any game 3
points.  That said, it’s obvious that the wise guys in nevada consider
Miami to be the better team in this one.  They are probably right.
Carson Palmer can get hot, though.  Lord knows he is surrounded by
talent.
Colin’s pick:  Cincinnati -1  Reidy’s pick: Miami +1

Kansas City VS Buffalo (+7.5)
The Chiefs are the surprise AFC team of 2010.  This week they play the
Bills who might or might not be the worst team in the league and they
get them at home.  If not for the stunning play of one Ryan
Fitzpatrick this one would be a no-brainer.  Fact is, the Bills can
play with anyone.  Ask the Ravens.
Colin’s pick:  Buffalo +7.5  Reidy’s pick: KC -7.5

San Diego VS Tennessee (+3.5)

The Chargers are second only to the Cowboys in the disappointment
category.  Heading into the 2010 season San Diego was a lock to win
the AFC West and expected to go deep into the playoffs.  So much for
that idea.  They are no better than the Broncos and the Raiders in
terms of record.  Talent – that’s another story.
Colin’s pick:  Tennessee +3.5  Reidy’s pick: Tennessee +3.5

Arizona VS Tampa Bay (+3)
Tampa, like St. Louis, is a resurgent team.  No longer among the dregs
of the NFL, the Bucs are making waves.  This week they face the
disappointing Cards in Arizona.  Kurt Warner is but a distant memory.
Colin’s pick:  Tampa Bay +3  Reidy’s pick: Tampa Bay +3

Oakland VS Seattle (+2.5)
The Raiders hung almost 60 points on the Broncos last week and looked
completely unstoppable.  The Seahawks lead their division but are
rough on the road.  This shapes up to be one of the more interesting
clashes of week 8.
Colin’s pick:  Oakland -2.5  Reidy’s pick:Oakland -2.5

New England VS Minnesota (+6.5)
Will Favre play?  Probably?  Will he play well?  Probably not.  Never
has a team been held hostage by its QB like the Vikings are in 2010.
Colin’s pick:  New England -6.5  Reidy’s pick: New England -6.5

New Orleans VS Pittsburgh (+1)
Drew Brees did his best Jay Cutler impression in week 7, tossing pick
after pick.   The Steelers bring the NFL’s nastiest defense into the
Big Easy for what should be among NOLA’s hardest home game this year.
Colin’s pick:  Pittsburgh +1  Reidy’s pick: NO -1

Indianapolis VS Houston (+5.5)
Bill Simmons calls games with lines like this “in the Vegas zone”.
Houston took the first one.  Will Indy get the second one?  Sparks
will fly.  Fantasy football players will be tuned in!
Colin’s pick:  Houston +5.5  Reidy’s pick: Indy -5.5
