Our week 5 NFL picks VS the spread

Both Colin and Reidy took a beating in week 4.  At this point in the season Colin has a 2 game edge against Reidy which could quickly evaporate.

In case you wondering, we retrieve our lines from www.footballlocks.com every Thursday.

Baltimore VS Denver (+7)

The Broncos stole one in Nashville in week 4 against a team not unlike the Ravens.  Baltimore is tough as nails but their offense doesn’t exactly light it up.  The Broncos offense, however, has been prolific.  Can Orton and company move the ball against one of the NFL’s nastiest defenses?  Time will tell.

Colin’s pick: Denver +7 Johns pick:  Denver +7

Buffalo VS Jacksonville (pick)

Every week in the NFL there is a terrible game on the slate.  This is a terrible game.  The funny thing is that sometimes these awful games actually turn out to be pretty entertaining.  This one could be.  Vegas has it as a pick ’em.  Generally, we like the home team in a pick ’em.

Colin’s pick:  Buffalo  John’s pick:  Jackoffsonville

Indianapolis VS Kansas City (+7.5)

It’s time for the Chiefs to get smacked around a little.  The 72′ Dolphins can pop open their sparkling wine after this one is over.  The last of the undefeated teams should be 3-1 after this trip to Indy.

Colin’s pick:  Indianapolis -7.5 John’s pick:  Indy -7.5

Detroit VS St Louis (+3)

What would have been a real suckfest in previous seasons shapes up to be a fun one week 5 in Detroit.  Both of these teams are vastly improved.  The Rams, though, are the serious contender to actually win their horrible division.

Colin’s pick:  St Louis +3 John’s pick:  Detroit -3

Atlanta @ Cleveland (+3)

Seneca Wallace?  Yeah.  The Browns are terrible.  They are coming off a big win VS their cross-state rivals, though.  If Atlanta can’t go into Cleveland and topple the hapless Brownies they don’t deserve to be considered playoff contenders.

Colin’s pick:  Atlanta -3 John’s pick:  Atlanta -3

Cincinnati VS Tampa Bay (+6.5)

This is a tough one to pick because both teams have proven to be a tad unpredictable.  Carson Palmer finally played pretty well last week after struggling mightily the first 3.  Tampa is better than we thought they were.

Colin’s pick: Cincinnati -6.5 John’s pick:  Tampa Bay +6.5

Carolina VS Chicago (+1)

The news that Cutler won’t play this weekend flipped this line from Chicago -2.5 to Carolina -1.  Todd Collins is really, really old.

Colin’s pick:  Carolina -1 John’s pick:  Carolina -1

Green Bay @ Washington (+2.5)

The Redskins and Donovan McNabb face the Packers at home.  This would be an enormous win for the ‘Skins who are right in the thick of the NFC East right now.  The Packers have one of the league’s best offenses.

Colin’s pick:  Washington +2.5 John’s pick:  Green Bay -2.5

Houston VS NY Giants (+3)

This is a nice match up in that both of these teams are in the thick of their division races.  Houston is very good.  Arian Foster is dazzling.  The Texans host a Giants team that embarrassed the previously undefeated Bears on Monday night.  That also means that the G-men are on a short week.

Colin’s pick:  Houston -3  John’s pick:  NY Giants +3

New Orleans @ Arizona (+6.5)

The Cards are the league’s most disappointing team.  They suck without Kurt Warner.  They host the Superbowl Champs.  6.5 is a huge number for a home team but it’s difficult to imagine the Cards faring very well.

Colin’s pick:  New Orleans -6.5 John’s pick:  New Orleans -6.5

San Diego @ Oakland (+6)

A classic AFC West clash!  The Chargers opened up a can of it last week.  Their typical slow start appears to be over.  The Raiders are just trying not to be as bad as the Bills.

Colin’s pick:  San Diego -6 John’s pick:  San Diego -6

Dallas VS Tennessee (+7)

The ‘Boys are coming off their bye week which is good news for fantasy football managers.  Tanned, rested and ready.  They host a Titans team that is reeling a bit and falling behind in their division.

Colin’s pick:  Dallas -7 John’s pick:  Tennessee -7

San Francisco VS Philadelphia (+3)

Vegas must not be fond of Kevin Kolb because this line would be flipped in Vick were under center for the Eagles.  Guess what?  Alex Smith aint’ no picnic, either.

Colin’s pick:  Philadelphia +3 John’s pick:  San Fransisco -3

NY Jets VS Minnesota (+4)

Can the Vikings and their new toy Randy Moss overcome Brett Favre’s penis and topple one of the favorites in the AFC on Monday Night Football?  This should be a circus atmosphere.

Colin’s pick:  NY Jets -4 John’s pick:  Minnesota -4
