Our week 4 NFL picks VS the spread

Colin D. | October 2, 2010

Colin edged Reidy out in week 3, posting a 10-6 VS Reidy’s 9-7. Their better-late-than- never pick-off is now in full swing. What spoils for to victor? Stay tuned. Remember, neither of us or are putting our money where our mouths are. We’re not gamblers. We do have a Sports Show.

Tennessee VS Denver (+6.5)

Wow, The Broncs are huge dogs on the road here even though the Titans look shaky as hell at the QB position. Denver has been better at stopping the run than most folks thought they would be in 2010 so it’s hard to imagine Chris Johnson lighting them up. Still, he’s Chris Johnson.

Colin’s pick: Denver +6.5, Reidy’s pick: Denver +6.5

Pittsburgh VS Baltimore (+1)

This line is kind of wacky. The Steelers look like the pride of the NFL right now despite being without Biggedy Ben Rapelisberger for the first 4 games. Baltimore is beastly to be sure, but it’s surprising that Pitt isn’t being spotted 3 in a home game. This will be a fun game to watch – old school AFC North football.

Colin’s pick: Pittsburgh -1,  Reidy’s pick: Baltimore +1

Cincinnati @ Cleveland (+3)

Oh, joy. It’s a battle of shitty Ohio teams. Quick, sign up for Sunday Ticket! These two awful clubs usually pile point on the board when facing one another which makes this game kind of tough to predict. We’re big Payton Hillis fans around here, though, so it’s tempting to take the home dog.

Colin’s pick: Cleveland +3, Reidy’s pick: Cincy -3

Green Bay VS Detroit (+14.5)

The Packers are the darlings of Vegas apparently. They have been monster favorites twice already this season. The Lions are struggling without Matt Stafford and are hitting the road for this tilt with the team most folks consider the favorite to represent the NFC in the big bowl. Nobody knows if rookie sensation Jahvid Best will be able to go in this one but it won’t matter much since the Pack stuffs the run well.

Colin’s pick: Detroit +14.5, Reidy’s pick: Detroit +14.5

New Orleans VS Carolina (+13.5)

The Panthers might be the worst team in all of football and could easily be the first to replace its head coach. They go into New Orleans this weekend to face another of the favorites in the NFC. To make matters worse for the kitty cats, the Saints lost to Atlanta last week.

Colin’s pick: New Orleans -13.5, Reidy’s pick: New Orleans -13.5

Atlanta VS San Francisco (+7)

Matty Ice and his flying Falcons are on a roll having slapped the Saints in week 3. They look playoff bound. The Niners, on the other hand, are crumbling. There has even been talk of canning Mike Singletary. San Fran needs this one desperately. Still, 7 seems like a pretty generous line.

Colin’s pick: Atlanta -7, Reidy’s pick:  Altanta -7

Seattle @ St Louis (+1)

It’s a little surprising that Seattle is a favorite, however slight, at the Lambs this week. It’s not looking as though Stephen Jackson will be able to play, though. He’s about 75% of the St Louis offense.

Colin’s pick: Seattle -1, Reidy’s pick: Seattle -1

NY Jets @ Buffalo (+5.5)

Rex Ryan’s Jets have proven that they are the real deal having beaten two division foes, the Pats and the ‘Fins. This game could put them at 3-0 in the division. It looks good for NY. The only question here is “can the Bills keep it close?”

Colin’s pick: Buffalo +5.5, Reidy’s pick:  NYJ -5.5

Indianapolis @ Jacksonville (+7.5)

The AFC South is a 2 horse race this season. It’ll come down to Houston and Indy. Jacksonville is unbelievably shitty. How the Broncos managed to lose to them is beyond imagination. They should get bitch slapped here. It’s the NFL, though. Who knows?

Colin’s pick: Indy -7.5, Reidy’s pick: Indy -7.5

Houston @ Oakland (+3)

Wow, Vegas. Oakland is only a 3 point dog? Wow. We realize that they are at home and that they benched Jamarcus Campbell but, still. Wow. The Texans are damn good and they are coming off an embarrassing loss to Dallas. This seems like a gimme.

Colin’s pick: Houston -3, Reidy’s pick: Houston -3

San Diego VS Arizona (+8.5)

Has any team ever missed a player the way the Cardinals miss Kurt Warner? They have gone from the playoffs to a battle for the worst record in football overnight. This week they travel to San Diego to face a Chargers team most people thought would win the AFC West with their eyes closed. The line is a big one but it’s hard to imagine the Chargers not taking the win.

Colin’s pick: San Diego -8.5, Reidy’s pick: Arizona +8.5

Philadelphia VS Washington (+6)

Oh, how we wish this were the night game. Donovan McNabb returns to Philadelphia! Awesome. We hope he gets a standing ovation but he won’t. Why? Because Philly fans are scum, that’s why.

Colin’s pick: Washington +6, Reidy’s pick: Philly -6

NY Giants VS Chicago (+4)

The line seems backward in this one after having seen what we have seen from these 2 teams over the first 3 weeks of the season. Vegas must be giving the Giants the edge based on their desperation. Chicago looks great. Cutler keeps trying to toss picks but defenders keep dropping them.

Colin’s pick: Chicago +4, Reidy’s pick: Chicago +4

New England @ Miami (+1)

The ‘Fins are good! Naturally, New England is, too. The Pats seem to be on the downswing, though, while Miami is improving. After having lost to the Jets in prime time it’s tough to imagine them losing to another division opponent under the lights. Home dogs on Monday nights…gotta love ‘em.

Colin’s pick: Miami +1, Reidy’s pick:  Miami +1

Mike Shanahan and Donavan McNabb
