Next season the Broncos could put Rex-N-Effect

Check baby check baby one – two – three – four. Check baby check baby one – two. Some NFL coaches were meant to be head men; some are better coordinators. Rex Ryan, the head coach who’s NY Jets will be dismantled by your Denver Broncos on Sunday morning (it’s an 11:00 game, don’t forget) might be the latter.

Despite some early success with the then Mark Sanchez led Jets, Rex Ryan has pretty well proven that he can’t get the job done in New York. His Jets are reeling once again in 2014 and it appears that he is on his way out as coach. The J-E-S-T, JEST JEST JEST are 1-4 through five games with their only victory having come week one in a squeaker over the hapless Raiders. New York has suffered the only shut out loss of the NFL season going down last week to the Chargers 31-0. Ahead on their schedule the Jets spy the Broncos, Bills, Pats, Chiefs and Steelers and they could easily be 1-9 by the end of that five game stretch.

It’s been a fun and comical run for he of the lap band surgery and the foot fetish but New York’s “other” NFL team is going to have no choice but to move on without Sexy Rexy.

So why not bring him to Denver?

With the very many NFL head coaching vacancies likely after the 2014 season Denver’s defensive coordinator, Jack Del Rio is probably going to be a candidate to fill one or more of them. Like his counterpart, Adam Gase, Del Rio has already been rumored to be a top head coaching prospect. He’s probably a goner. If he gets hired on elsewhere the Broncos will be on the hunt for a replacement – and none could be better than Rex Ryan.

Ryan has been a defensive coach throughout his career – both at the NFL and college levels including stints with the Cards, the Bengals, Oklahoma, Kansas State and the Baltimore Ravens. And everywhere Rex has gone he has put his signature on the defense. His is an aggressive, in-your-face, tough-as-nails style on the defensive side of the ball. Ryan could re-shape the way Broncos fans see defense, especially with the talent the Broncos have brought in to work alongside guys like Von Miller, whom they drafted.

So when the Broncos are lighting up the scoreboard on Rex Ryan’s Jets on Sunday take a moment to consider that their washed-up head coach could return to his defensive roots as a coordinator for your Denver Broncos. After all, there are many examples of former head coaches who are now making waves as coordinators in the NFL. Norv Turner comes to mind. He could never seem to break through as a head coach but he’s earning praise as the OC in Minnesota. Colorado could be the perfect place for Ryan to come to re-invigorate his coaching career and bring a new nastiness to the Orange and Blue. Wouldn’t the local media just love him?
