They call him “the Lord of no Rings”.
Chargers’ General Manager AJ Smith has overseen one failed season after another for San Diego and he’s fearful that another one is coming.
Smith told the San Diego Union Tribune:
“As far as the division race is concerned, I know this, it will be very difficult to win the West. The Broncos are defending champs, and they added Peyton Manning. The Raiders and the Chiefs are much better. The Broncos are led by one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. I just hope the Broncos don’t run away with the division and leave the rest of us behind in the dust.”
It sounds like Smith is being realistic about his squad’s chances. He hopes that the division race will be close – but he knows that it’s not going to be easy.
“whoever comes out on top in the West will be primed for their playoff run”, Smith added, “May the best team win, and I hope it’s us.”
It won’t be them. If any team in the division is poised to give the Manning-lead Broncos a run for their money it will likely be the Chiefs.
