A tip of my Broncos sideline cap to LaDainian Tomlinson

Colin D. | June 18, 2012

Take your hats off and give some props to a real Bronco killer, LaDainian Tomlinson.

They say that you should respect your enemy.

Broncos fans respected LaDainian Tomlinson. They might not have liked him (although I did), but they respected him. The guy tore the Broncos apart.

After a brief stopover with the New York Jets, Tomlinson is retiring today as a member of the San Diego Chargers.

He was one of the most versatile and productive running backs the NFL has ever known. He lead the league in rushing in 2006 and 2007, has eight 1,000 yard seasons, went to five Pro-Bowls, was a league MVP and a Walter Payton Man of the Year.  And, it just so happened that  the Broncos faced him twice a season. We got to see a Hall of Famer do his thing against our team a lot.

Of the 145 touchdowns L.T. scored in his career it seemed like a hundred of them were scored against Denver.  It wasn’t neccesarily enjoyable to watch the man who owns the record for most TD’s in a season score so many of them against the our guys, but it was certainly memorable.

It was impossible not to have deep admiration for him and the way he played the game.

I will always remember his staring out at the Broncos through that ominous visor he wore. It always felt like he was going to break a long run at any moment. I can’t remember fearing any opposing offensive player more.

It’s a shame that the Chargers never earned L.T. a ring. Nah. Not really.

I cut and pasted this list of Tomlinson’s accolades directly from Wikipedia:
