I like traveling back in time, but I’m not smart enough to build a time machine so I do the next best thing and dig through any archive I can get my hands on.

It’s been an obsession of mine for two decades. While most kids were playing kick the can and red rover, I was sifting through microfilm at the Denver Public Library.

My research habits continue in the digital age and every one and awhile I stumble on nostalgic treasures for the patient sports fan.

One of the most useful and relatively overlooked sources for sports history can be found on the Denver Broncos website. The Broncos have uploaded every sports media guide ever printed for digital viewing.

I can imagine the pain the staff members felt when they were tasked to scan in countless pages of Broncos history were.

You may not get the same tactile sense you would by thumbing and dog-earring pages of its print version but the history is still there for the reading.

Media guides are one of the most essential tools sports journalists use when they are covering stories for big game.

The information power is in your hands now that you can view each media guides, gamebooks and flipcards for select games can also be viewed.

The 2014 edition holds everything you will ever want to know about the Broncos including  its history, hundreds of pages of stats, team records and probably even what Peyton Manning had for breakfast at the University of Tennessee.

Although it wasn’t that detailed for the 1960 edition, which was a mere 19 pages. The first media guide holds key information about the fledgling organization like brief biographies of the coaches, players that made the training camp roster and schedules for all the teams in the American Football Conference.

You can even find a few pages listing the birthdays for the first Broncos and a price sheet for souvenirs that make me wish they were that cheap today.

This is just a taste of what you can learn from the Broncos media guides and I hope you’ll check to see what I find out, but if you are impatient I suggest going here to take a peek for yourself and take a stroll down Orange and Blue memory lane.
