What a fickle lot we are, we Broncos fans. One day we are Tebowing and the next day we are praying for Peyton Manning. It's no wonder that some folks are really upset with us.
It's easy for us to scoff at Tim Tebow, after all. Very few "experts" believe he can play. Turning on Tebow is as easy as one, two, three incomplete passes. There's an enormous support group for turncoats like us who wish to cast him aside. They are called "haters", and they follow Tebow wherever he goes. You can join them. But I won't. I love the guy.
Tim Tebow did everything he possibly could for the Broncos -and for the State of Colorado during his 2011 season. He turned a nothing team into a playoff team all by himself. Behold the power of will! I will aways admire him for that. Goodness, that was a fun ride.
I'm a grown up, though. I know Peyton Manning gives the Broncos (excuse the expression) the best chance to win.
I hope like hell heck that Tim Tebow can stay here and play with Peyton Manning but I seriously doubt he will. Tebow will probably have to move on to a team with ticket sales concerns.
I hope he goes to Jacksonville where they will shower him with love and bubbly Florida beauty queens. I hope he wins Super Bowls there, too.
He certainly deserves no ill will from me. He's a great guy. But, if the Broncos sign Peyton Manning, he won't be my quarterback anymore.
Maybe I will take him with my tenth round pick pick in fantasy next year.
I don't blame people who are pissed at the Broncos for giving up on the kid (and, make no bones about it, that's what the Broncos and a lot of their fans have done). I can totally see the "Tebowist" point of view.
John Elway and the rest look like grim reapers. Real fans have loyalty - not just to logos - but to jerseys - to players that they love. They want to see the teams they support demonstrate the same. Tim Tebow is among our most loved of all time, for now even if not forever. It's easy to ask "why let him go?" and "why now?".
But, what folks need to realize is that Peyton Manning is a monster score. A once-in-a-lifetime, you have-got-to-be-kidding-me, I-can't-believe-it free agency signing that can potentially register on the Richter scale. They have to do this, you guys.
If the Broncos can be the team to land Peyton Manning they will become an instant threat to stand atop the entire AFC. That's something I can get down on one knee for. And that's not a crime.
