Some people are pretty dumb.

Yesterday a fake news story made the rounds in social media claiming that Peyton Manning had broken both legs in a car accident. Dumb people freaked out. Smart people immediately realized that it was a hoax.

We’ve seen these types of stories before. Online services exist that will generate them. In this case somebody used a site called “FakeAwish” which created a faux news item supposedly reported by “Global Associated News”, a blatantly fake newspaper. Somebody put a link the story on Twitter and then, like all sh*t, the story ran downhill and gullible Broncos fans from Coast to Coast reacted with panic.

The internet is a powerful tool. When blended with stupidity it’s comically powerful.
