This is so cool. I literally have goose bumps as I type.
First the LA Kings donated $10,000 to her memorial scholarship. Now the Philadelphia Flyers have created an internship in memory of Jessica Redfield.
Flyers President, Peter Luukko said:
“We felt the best way to assist with this great cause was to offer an internship of our own to help these prospective recipients gain the real world experience of covering a professional sports team. The goal of the fund is to build futures in her name. It is our intention to assist with that in this manner.”
A female college student will be afforded the opportunity to pursue Jessica's dream of covering an NHL team from the inside and to develop her skills as a sports journalist. Jessica would have been thrilled by this. And it's extra cool that a team as far away as Philly is doing this.
Now I'm getting weepy.
