The South Stands Denver Fancast made it's broadcast radio debut last night on Mile High Sports Radio.
I have spoken with a three players in the local sports radio game who we asked to listen and evaluate the show since then, including the fellow we were filling in for. What we have learned is that coming out of the gates talking Hockey (which is what we did) is considered one of the cardinal sins of Sports talk in Colorado.
All three guys brought it up right immediately..
If you are going to talk Hockey, they say, save it for the end of the show.
Conventional wisdom says listeners are turned off by the NHL.
With as little as is happening in the Sports scene this summer, we kind of thought that NHL free-agency and the Avalache' role in it was one of the bigger stories. So, we booked Ryan Boulding from the Avalanche Guild as our first guest.
Ryan was great - and we got some real good insider stuff from him on the signings the Avs had made, will make and should make. It was a very good segment and we are stoked that Ryan agreed to do it.
Had we been doing our usual podcast the Hockey chat wouldn't have been an issue - but, since we were on air, it apparently was.
Frankly, we're puzzled by it.
Denver is a 4-sport town with 3 Sports Radio stations. One would certainly think that there's plenty of room for talkin' Avalanche.
