the "Broncos way"
This morning I was listening to "The Mile High Club" with Eric Goodman and Renaud Notaro on AM1510 as I do every morning. Goodman was railing on Broncos fans who are pissed that the organization is mirroring the Patriots under McDaniels. Goodman emphasized that New England has had great success and encouraged us to be glad that "Hoodie Junior" is amassing Patriot talent.
I am one of those fans who's not diggin' it. My response to Goodman is this:
1) The Patriots nut has been cracked. Coaches around the NFL have obsessed over Belichick for the better part of a decade.
2) McDaniels isn't Belichick
3) McDaniels is cleaning house very quickly for as inexperienced as he is.
4) It's starting look like McDaniels is building a "posse" rather than a "staff".
5) The hoodie was a little over the top.
6) Letting Nolan get away was ridiculous.
It got me thinking, though. McDaniels has me rattled because he isn't doing things the "Broncos way". But what IS the "Broncos way"? Ever since I started paying attention( right around 1980) the Broncos have always been built to look like some other successful team from a given period.
First it was the Cowboys.

The Broncos affiliation with the Cowboys was deep in the 70's and 80's. Craig Morton, Dan Reeves. Heck, even Tony Dorsett came to Denver to before he hung 'em up.
Then it was the 'Niners.

The West Coast Offense, Seifert, Walsh ... Shanahan. Heck, even Jerry Rice came to Denver to before he hung 'em up.
Now it's New England

Belichick, the hoodie, the arrogance, Dean Pees, McD's brother Ben, who will have a biggerrole with the team, assistant Mark Thewes (a high schoolteammate), assistant coach Roman Phifer (who played for the Patriots), video director Steve Scarnecchia (who was with the Patriots and isthe son of the Patriots' offensive coordinator), college scout AdamPeters (who worked in the Patriots' personnel department), formerPatriots' players Jabar Gaffney, Daniel Graham, Lonnie Paxton, BrandonGorin and LaMont Jordan. ***(list compiled by Woody Paige who's column in today's post kicks ass)***
There is no "Broncos way". Josh McDaniels, brash and ignorant as he may be, is following a decades-old Broncos tradition of tracing the footprints of a winner. Shanny won two Superbowls and gave Denver an identity. He's gone.
When Pat Bowlen scanned the NFL for coaching prospects what he was really seeking was a new identity - a legacy for the Broncos to ride the coattails of. He chose New England's.
Why does that bother us? Well, Boston is in the East, first of all. Coloradans can't relate to people from the East. Californians, Arizonans, even Texans; no problem. New Yorkers and Bostonians don't understand us and we don't understand them.
Secondly, the Patriots are rats. Lying, cheating, nasty rats. The biggest rat is that rat Bilichick. Spygate is only the most obvious example of their ratness. The are dodgy, meticulous, scheming rodents who shit in the cereal. Only the Red Sox are worse.
Forgive us, Goodman, if we question Bowlen's choice to let those things in the house.

This article is ludicrous! Daniel Graham was brought in under the Mike Shanahan regime...
That is all.
Thank you.

uh...he's got you there on Daniel Graham. and also, while we're picking you apart, how does Eric Goodman become Drew Goodman by the end of the column? Drew Goodman is far better looking.

I was being just a bit sarcastic about the Daniel Graham thing making the article ludicrous =) I know that it was originally Woody Paige that made the mistake.
Mainly just wanted to get a comment in, so we can post here and contribute.
